Tuffy wishes to be taller, so he decides to accompany them as he wants to see the Wizard as well. Tuffy advises them not to follow, but Tom and Jerry keep their promise to protect her and insist on following her. Glinda sent down Dorothy the yellow brick road to reach the Emerald City and find the famed Wizard of Oz in order to get back home. As gratitude, the Good Witch of the North, Glinda, gave the witch's ruby slippers to Dorothy, but the Wicked Witch of the West appeared and swore to claim the slippers for herself. Tuffy informs them that the house they arrived in a few hours ago landed on and crushed the Wicked Witch of the East.
The two encounter a grey Munchkin mouse named Tuffy, who tries to keep Jerry safe from harm, assuming Tom wanted to eat him, but Jerry clears up the misunderstanding. Once they wake up, they find themselves in Munchkinland. Tom and Jerry are knocked out while trying to get inside the house. As Tom and Jerry return home, a tornado strikes the area and the two seek refuge in their house after failing to join Aunt Em, Uncle Henry and the farmhands in the storm cellar. Dorothy runs away from home with Toto shortly afterwards.

Witnessing this, Tom and Jerry give chase and successfully free Toto. Later, Miss Almira Gulch, who was bitten by Toto earlier, arrives at the Gale farm and takes him away to be put down. Aunt Em asks Tom and Jerry to put their differences aside, and watch over Dorothy the two reluctantly agree. She owns a dog named Toto, a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry. If you think you’d be interested, give it a shot and you might find some cool pieces to enjoy here.Dorothy Gale is a girl living in Kansas with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry as well as farmhands Hunk, Hickory, and Zeke. Not spectacular and a lot of you will find it a slow and dragging… But it’s decent. It was funny, sweet, and provided a nice little adventure. I went into Oz the Great and Powerful with really low expectations, so I was actually really impressed. In the original film, so much was done practically, that I wish more had been done that way this time around.Īlso the run time is a little too long and the pacing dragged at key moments.

The movie had a nice retro feeling but there would be effects that stood out as being extremely complicated CGI creations but yet incredibly fake looking. Some of the other effects were poorly done as well.

Weisz at least went full force, where Kunis’ transformation throughout the movie was unbelievable and it didn’t help that the CGI of the Wicked Witch looked strangely plastic as opposed to organic. Kunis and Weisz both struggled with the script it felt like. Williams somehow managed to make the duo work however.Īgain, Franco wasn’t spectacular. Franco played some parts well when things slowed down but there was a majority of the movie where he seemed like the same James Franco character pulled straight from movies like Pineapple Express. Very impressed with the work that they did on this little girl.įor live acting, the highlight was definitely Michelle Williams as Glinda. China Doll, voiced by young actress Joey King, is not only very cool visually but also one of the deepest characters in the movie. I enjoyed Finley and thought he had some nice and sweet moments.
Finley is voiced by Zach Braff and I had heard some complaints that he was a distraction and the equivalent to a Jar Jar Binks kind of character. Let’s talk about the film’s two CGI characters that stood out. The effects are also balanced, keeping some of the that quirky and beyond realistic feeling from the original, but some also really cool effects such as the loveable China Doll character. People thought the ends were cut off and even yelled a little bit, but at a key moment in the movie, the square expands to full widescreen (and also from black and white to color). For example, the movie begins a square frame ratio. The general tone of the movie works perfectly, balancing the feel of the original with current technology. There’s also substantial voice acting by Zach Braff and the young star Joey King. Supporting cast members include three witches played by Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz. In a tornado, he is swept away to the magical land of Oz where tries to con its inhabitants into thinking he’s a real wizard. This movie focuses on “Oz,” a carnival magician and conman played by James Franco. In this prequel to the classic 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, we get a re-envisioning of the world courtesy of director Sam Raimi ( Spider-Man, Evil Dead).
